Workflow Builder: a Database Configuration Tool

The ECN Group Limited is a Software development company that designs and builds Business Process Management (BPM) solutions using their BPM engine, Viibe. Viibe is a flexible framework that can be customised to meet the specific needs of the organisation. Viibe is made up of three distinct layers; Presentation layer, Middle tier and Database layer. The Database layer is made up of a client database which is contains two types of tables, standard tables and custom tables. The standard tables are configured to customise the look of Viibe. Currently, The ECN Group configures these tables manually, a process which is tedious and error-prone. Existing tools on the market are not used in this process because they are not specific enough to work with the Viibe database architecture. In this report we look at Workflow Builder (WFB), a tool that we created which will allow quick and efficient configuration of the standard tables. It does this by virtue of having a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that guides the user through a series of simple step. It has a GUI that requires the least amount of manual data entry by making use of drag-and-drop functionality and an existing drawing package, Addflow for .NET.
